Red Hook Teen Gunned Down Stepdad To Protect Mom: NYPD

Police arrested a 17-year-old who allegedly shot and killed his stepfather after he fought with the teen's mother.

RED HOOK, NY — A 17-year-old gunned down his stepfather to stop him from beating his mother in their Red Hook apartment, police said.

Authorities arrested Devin Corbin for shooting his stepdad at 10:40 p.m. Friday. The pair fought after the 30-year-old began fighting with Corbin's mother inside the Red Hook East Houses on Hicks Street near Hill Street. Amid the struggle, Corbin grabbed a gun and shot his stepfather in the back, according to police.

Medics rushed the wounded man to Brooklyn Presbyterian-New York Methodist Hospital where he was pronounced dead, officials said. The man's identity was not immediately released.

Corbin was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in connection to the shooting. He was remanded without bail during his Saturday arraignment at Brooklyn Criminal Court, officials said.

His is due back in court on Oct. 11.
