Red Hook's Hope & Anchor To Close After 15 Years, Owners Say
The Van Brunt Street eatery announced on Facebook they would close at the end of February because they couldn't renew their lease.

RED HOOK, BROOKLYN — One of Brooklyn's best burger spots will close next month after they couldn't get their lease renewed, its owners announced on Facebook.
Hope & Anchor, the maritime-themed eatery at 347 Van Brunt St., plans to close at the end of February after nearly 15 years in business at the neighborhood, according to the post published on Monday.
"Real estate is a fickle thing, we have tried every option to stay and serve the good people of Red Hook, Brooklyn and beyond, as long as we could," owners Pete Ascolese and Brandi Metaxas wrote in the post. "When it comes down to it our lease is up, and we are not able to renew it."

The eatery is the second beloved business on Van Brunt Street that plans to close down this year. The dive-bar Red Hook Bait & Tackle, at 320 Van Brunt St., will close on Jan. 27 after 14 years on the block because owners said it stopped making enough money to cover the bills.
The bar will have one last party starting at 4 p.m. with their annual chili cook-off followed by a silent auction for bar signs, live music and a dance party.
