SEE: Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway Could Double As Flood Protection In Red Hook

Check out some designs proposed by New York state.

RED HOOK, BROOKLYN — The scenic greenway that will span much of Brooklyn's west coast could also double as flood protection in Red Hook.

Conceptual designs from New York State show ideas to help prevent massive damage from another major storm by building barriers, storm water sinks and elevated walking spaces.

The plans were presented to a technical advisory committee for the greenway and shared by Community Board 6. You can view their presentation here.

The slideshow shows some ideas for preventing floodwaters from devastating Red Hook by stopping them with physical barriers or letting them drain out underneath higher elevation walkways.
