A gas leak on Grace Avenue has compelled public safety officials to close off the road between Barstow Rd. and Colonial Rd. on Friday afternoon, according to a Nassau County Police alert.
The leak had been contained by National Grid workers by 3p.m. on Friday, but a mess was still left in the laps of building managers of the Eden Terrace apartment complex, at 71 Grace Ave.

"It's a disaster," said one employee of Einsidler Management, the building's management company. Village of Thomaston electrical workers had been digging under the street to do electrical work on Gilchrest Road, directly in front of the building. Building management claims it was the electrical work that knocked the gas out, leaving the building scrambling restore the gas in each individual unit.
The building's regular super is on vacation, and the keys to each unit were not on hand for the management company. Many residents were not home on Friday afternoon to allow workers in to restore their gas.
