GREAT NECK, NY — A man planted his cell phone in the ceiling of Planet Fitness in Great Neck, police said, to illegally record women in the gym's tanning studio.

A woman, 20, noticed a phone recording her while tanning and called 911 on Saturday around 6 p.m. Police arrested Demetrius Sumter, 27, of St. Albans. He was charged with unlawful surveillance, which is a felony.

Unlawful surveillance convictions can also result in placement on sex offender registry, according to the New York State Sex Offender Registration Act.
