📰 News we're reading

1. Great Neck Village Officials Association awarded grant for shoreline resiliency (longislandpress.com) — Great Neck’s villages just secured nearly $100,000 to study and plan for shoreline resiliency along the peninsula’s Long Island Sound waterfront, aiming to reduce flood risk and protect homes and infrastructure. The grant will fund an environmental risk and vulnerability assessment by Woods Hole Group, part of a larger federal‑backed effort to help Sound communities adapt to changing conditions.

2. Long Island school districts with positive lead tests: (news12.com) — Great Neck schools are among more than 20 Nassau County districts where recent state testing found drinking water fixtures above New York’s newly tightened lead limits. The report lists dozens of Long Island districts now required to shut off affected taps, provide alternate water, and carry out remediation plans to protect students’ health.

3. Music 4 Souls brings joy and community to local senior centers (longislandpress.com) — A student-led music group, Music 4 Souls, has been performing at senior centers across Long Island, including Highfield Gardens Care Center in Great Neck, to lift residents’ spirits through live music and singalongs. Local teens organize rehearsals, tailor songs to each audience, and say seniors’ smiles and emotional reactions keep them motivated to expand the program.

4. 'The Housemaid' review: Bad. Like bad bad. Not fun bad. (mashable.com) — A new thriller set partly at a mansion in Great Neck gets panned in this review, which finds the adaptation of Freida McFadden’s novel dull instead of deliciously trashy. While the story follows a desperate young housemaid who takes a live-in job with the wealthy Winchester family, the critic argues weak performances and flat direction waste the Long Island setting and pulpy premise.
