Great Neck Resident Finds Injured Eagle On Back Porch: NY DEC

The head injury may have been the result of an attack by another eagle, DEC officials said.

GREAT NECK, NY — On the morning of April 2, a Great Neck resident saw a young and injured eagle in the back yard, and called police.

Environmental Conservation Officer Lawrence Pabes responded, and found a male juvenile with a serious injury to its head. He was able to walk up and easily capture the eagle as it was perched on a back porch, DEC officials said.

The injured bird was taken to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator in Massapequa.

The rehabilitator speculated that the eagle’s injury was likely the result of an attack by another eagle, as these birds of prey are highly territorial during spring mating season, DEC officials said.
