NORTH HILLS, NY — One person died in a crash early Friday on the Long Island Expressway in North Hills that shuttered the westbound lanes for hours.

Around 2 a.m. Friday, two vehicles heading west on the expressway crashed, police said. A 39-year-old man who was driving one of the vehicles died at the scene.

The second driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The westbound lanes were closed between Exit 36 for Searingtown Road and Exit 34 for New Hyde Park Road. They reopened just after 9 a.m.
