Mazi Pilip Switches To Republican Party

The Nassau County legislator lost on Feb. 13 to Tom Suozzi in a special election for George Santos' expelled seat.

GREAT NECK, NY — Nassau County Legislator Mazi Pilip has switched her party affiliation to Republican.

Pilip, an Orthodox Jew originally from Ethiopia, posted this week on Instagram:

"It's official- I have changed my party registration to Republican. While I have always served as a member of the Majority in the County Legislature, I was registered in another party. I am proud to be part of and registered as a Republican."

Pilip lost to Tom Suozzi in the special election race to fill George Santos' void in Congress.

Suozzi, who held the seat before taking on Kathy Hochul in a failed gubernatorial bid two years ago, outpaced Pilip by 13,000 votes on Feb. 13.

He was expected to be sworn into office on Wednesday to finish out Santos' term this year ahead of the general election in November.

In Pilip's post, she is shown signing the document to make the change.

Pilip spent several years in Israel, where she was a soldier in the IDF. She is in her second term in the county legislature representing Great Neck.
