Sarah Hughes Throws Strike for Women's Sports
Olympic gold medalist throws out first pitch as Yankees celebrate women's sports.

Great Neck Olympian Sarah Hughes may be one of the most celebrated athletes in Long Island history, but the gold medal-winning figure skater didn’t show off a strong arm Monday at Yankee Stadium.
Hughes threw out the ceremonial first pitch for “Daughters' Day at Yankee Stadium.” The actual pitch, reportedly not great. But she did throw a strike for women's sports.
If her toss toward home plate didn’t wow the crowd, certainly Hughes’ presence did. It was all for a good cause. The Yankees invited more than 150 girls from the GoGirlGo! program and the team donated $5,000 to the Women’s Sports Foundation, according to ESPNW.

"I hope that anyone who has a daughter will enroll their daughters in sports and I hope that they'll support their daughters," Hughes told ESPNW. "The support of family is very important. You don't need to be an Olympic champion. You have me and Christie here who have dedicated our lives to sports, but you don’t need that level of success or dedication to reap the benefits, to have your life enhanced by sports and by what sports offers."
Afterward Hughes Tweeted: @SarahHughesNY Throwing the first pitch at the @mlb yankees game to celebrate @WomensSportsFdn #throwbackthursday… http://instagram.com/p/dnzjrPCEKG/
