USMMA Volleyball Wins Tourney

The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women’s volleyball team won its own tournament for the second straight year, going a near-perfect 9-1 against Wentworth, CCNY and Farmingdale State.

Junior outside hitter Cassandra Palma was named 2013 Kings Point Invitational MVP after recording double-digit kills in every match.

The Mariners beat Wentworth 3-1 on Friday. Then USMMA turned in back-to-back quality performances Saturday, downing CCNY 3-0 followed by 46 kills in a 3-0 defeat of Farmingdale State. Palma had 14 kills against Farmingdale.

Freshman Jordy Macbeth was named all-tournament.

USMMA (3-0) plays at Manhattanville Wednesday, 7 pm.
