Woman, 82, Lost $25K In Great Neck Phone Scam: Police
According to police, an unknown suspect instructed the victim to go to her local bank branch and deliver $25,000 to a Coinhub ATM.
GREAT NECK, NY — Nassau County police are investigating a phone scam that cost an elderly Great Neck woman $25,000, according to a news release.
Police said the 82-year-old victim received a phone call around 5 p.m. on March 31 from someone claiming to be a Chase Bank employee. The unknown suspect instructed the victim to go to her local bank branch and deliver $25,000 to a Coinhub ATM in order to reverse a fraudulent charge.
Once the victim transferred the money, the suspect asked her to withdraw another $39,000, police said. At that time, the victim became suspicious of fraud and notified police.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
