1 Seriously Hurt In Crash With Tractor-Trailer In Melville

The crash occurred on Saturday morning, officials say.

Two drivers were injured, one seriously, following a collision involving a tractor-trailer, an SUV and two parked cars in Melville on Saturday morning.

According to authorities, the SUV and truck collided at the intersection of Walt Whitman Road and the South Service Road at 1:30 a.m. Officials say both vehicles traveled several hundred feet down the Service Road, through the woods and into the parking lot of the FedEx building, striking two parked cars.

The Melville Fire Department responded to the scene and used heavy rescue tools to extricate the driver of the SUV. The individual was taken to Nassau University Medical Center by the Melville Rescue Squad to be treated for serious injuries.

The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Plainview Hospital by the Melville Rescue Squad.

Three ambulances, three heavy rescue engines, paramedic and first responder units were at the scene. Units were under the direction of Assistant Chief David Kaplan, according to PIO Steve Silverman.
