2 Hurt, 1 Seriously, After Car Strikes Tree In Melville
The car was ripped apart by the collision.
Two people were injured, one seriously, when a car was ripped apart after striking a tree in Melville Wednesday night. According to fire officials, a Nissan Altima struck the tree on Broad Hollow Road, between Spagnoli Road and Ruland Road, at about 8:10 p.m.
A female passenger who suffered serious injuries was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital by Suffolk Police medivac helicopter. The male driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Huntington Hospital by Melville Rescue Squad ambulance.
The helicopter landing zone at Farmingdale College was secured by the Melville Fire Department with assistance from the East Farmingdale Fire Department.

About 25 Melville firefighters and emergency medical personnel were on the scene with three ambulances, two engines and a heavy rescue truck. Units were under the direction of Chiefs Chris Nolan, Dave Kaplan and Bill Schmitt, according to Steve Silverman, fire department public information officer.
