Cocaine Found In Melville Restaurant 'Illegally' Operating As Night Club: PD

A bag of cocaine was found, and a DJ was playing music near a dance floor during a State Liquor Authority check, police say.

MELVILLE, NY — The manager of a Melville restaurant was cited during a New York State Liquor Authority compliance check after a bag of cocaine was found while the restaurant was operating illegally as a night club, Suffolk police said.

Officials from the Suffolk police, SLA, and Town of Huntington inspected Bijou Modern American Asian Restaurant, at 400 Broadhollow Road, at 11 p.m., following community complaints, police said.

The manager of the restaurant was issued several summonses in connection with SLA violations, police said. A bag of cocaine was found on the floor, police said.

The State Liquor Authority observed the restaurant was "illegally operating as a night club," with a DJ playing music and a dance floor, police said. The Liquor Authority issued numerous violations and the establishment was closed for the night, police said.

The Town of Huntington Fire Marshall and Town of Huntington Code Enforcement Inspector issued six combined Building, Fire and Code Violations to the owner, police said.
