Domestic Ducks Left Abandoned In Melville: SPCA

"Abandoning a domestic bird is a crime just like abandoning a dog or a cat."

Suffolk County SPCA is looking to identify the person or persons who abandoned several domestic ducks in Melville.

According to authorities, several Muscovy ducks, which are protected birds under the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act, were left in a Melville corporate center on Wednesday.

"Abandoning a domestic bird is a crime just like abandoning a dog or a cat. When they're abandoned to fend for themselves, these sweet animals often starve or are torn apart by predators because they lack the instincts to survive in the wild." says John Di Leonardo, President and Anthrozoologist at Long Island Orchestrating for Nature (LION.)
