Fire Destroys Dix Hills Home
Firefighters battle fire and ice in Saturday night blaze, officials say.
Quick-thinking firefighters battled wintry elements to put out a Dix Hills house blaze Saturday night, authorities said.
At about 11:15 p.m. the Dix Hills Fire Department responded to the house fire on Melrose Road. More than 50 volunteer firefighters battled through the cold and knee-deep snow to extinguish the raging blaze. At the time of the fire, temperatures were in the teens, and the icy conditions created a hazardous work environment for firefighters, officials said.
There were no reported injuries, officials said.
