Pedestrian Killed In Suffolk Crash; Driver Arrested: Police

A woman, 69, was fatally struck while walking in the road, police say. The driver faces a DWAI charge, police say.

DIX HILLS, NY — A Huntington Station man was charged with DWAI following a crash that killed a pedestrian in Dix Hills on Sunday, Suffolk police said.

Kenneth Stewart, 64, was driving a 2021 Honda Civic westbound on Vanderbilt Parkway at Village Hill Drive when he struck a pedestrian in the roadway at 3:07 p.m., police said.

The pedestrian, Angela Sarant, 69, of Dix Hills, was pronounced dead at South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, police said. Stewart was not injured, police said.

Stewart was charged with driving while ability impaired by alcohol and drugs. He was held overnight at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.

The Honda was impounded for a safety check.
