$10M In Funding Headed To East Harlem As Part Of Revitalization Push
Standing in East Harlem on Thursday, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that the community will receive $10M in funding for neighborhood causes.

EAST HARLEM, NY — East Harlem is getting millions of dollars in funding for neighborhood improvements.
Standing in the uptown community on Thursday, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced East Harlem will receive $10 million in funding as part of New York State's "Downtown Revitalization Initiative."
"The rich culture and history of East Harlem is an incredibly important part of New York City's story," Hochul said during a press conference. "Through this $10 million investment, we can help the community preserve its heritage and spur economic development within the neighborhood for generations to come."

The deployment of the new funds will begin with the process of developing a Strategic Investment Plan to decide the best way to revitalize the neighborhood.
This will be done through a local planning committee made up of local elected officials, community leaders, and other neighborhood stakeholders who will work together on a plan of action.

The team will examine assets and opportunities to identify local areas of economic development, transportation, housing, and community projects.
These plans are expected to be finished by the end of 2023.
"I am grateful East Harlem has been chosen to receive $10 million from the Downtown Revitalization Initiative and look forward to witnessing how this funding will be utilized to bolster community and economic development, drive employment growth in the area, create green and functional public spaces, and support clear air and community health throughout the region," Rep. Adriano Espaillat said during Thursday's press conference.
