125th Street Building Fire Injures 1, Authorities Say

A Friday morning fire in a 125th Street apartment building left a civilian injured and prompted a big emergency response, the FDNY says.

HARLEM, NY — One civilian was injured in a fire that broke out Friday morning in an apartment building on 125th Street, authorities said.

Flames were spotted around 10 a.m. inside 79 East 125th St., a five-story apartment building just west of Park Avenue, an FDNY spokesperson said.

Sixty firefighters responded to the scene, managing to get the fire under control after around half an hour, according to an FDNY alert.

The civilian, whose injuries were minor, was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, the FDNY said.

Authorities did not say where in the building the fire began, but video posted to the Citizen app show a firetruck ladder stretched all the way to the roof as emergency vehicles block off 125th Street.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the FDNY said.
