5 Injured After Massive Fire Rips Through Harlem Building: FDNY

Flames broke out Monday morning within a commercial building in Harlem near East 124th Street, an FDNY spokesperson told Patch.

HARLEM, NY — Five people are injured, including four firefighters, after a massive fire ripped through a building Monday morning in East Harlem, an FDNY spokesperson told Patch.

The blaze broke out around 12:30 a.m. within a three-story building at 2277 Third Ave., near East 124th Street, FDNY said.

The building is home to a furniture store and the Exodus Transitional Community Center.

Nearly 140 fire fighters responded to fight the uptown blaze, FDNY said.

The fire is under control as of Monday morning, but FDNY operations are still underway at the building.

The response also wasn't without injuries as four firefighters suffered minor injuries, and one civilian was taken to Harlem Hospital with a minor injury, FDNY said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
