6 Charged In Violent Harlem Retaliation Conspiracy After Shooting: DA
A deadly shooting in Harlem in April led to multiple retaliation attacks between rival crews, according to the Manhattan District Attorney.

HARLEM, NY — Six Harlem residents were indicted for their role in a deadly conspiracy retaliation plot over a different fatal neighborhood shooting in April, the Manhattan District Attorney's office announced Wednesday.
The half dozen people indicted this week all have residential or social ties to the Lincoln Houses NYCHA complex in East Harlem, the DA's office said.
“As alleged, these defendants deliberately targeted a rival in an organized quest for vengeance, and now two families are mourning the loss of their loved ones,” said District Attorney Bragg, in a news release. “This indictment once again shows how the easy availability of firearms continues to plague our communities."

The chain of events that led to the indictments began on April 8, when Jaylen Duncan, 19, was allegedly murdered by Messiah Nantwi, an associate of the "One-Two-Nine" crew, the DA said.
Nantwi has since been arrested and charged with murder in connection to the deadly shooting that took place near Madison Avenue and East 132nd Street, police said.

Minutes after Duncan was shot and killed, the six defendants began planning a coordinated and separate retaliation shooting of Hector Delgado, who was also a member of the "One-Two-Nine" crew, the DA said.
Roughly 45 minutes later, two people within the group traveled to West 131st Street and Lenox Avenue and fired multiple gunshots into a crowd of people who they believed were associated with individuals involved in Duncan's murder, but they didn't hit anybody, the DA said.
Following the reveal two days later on April 11 that Nantwi was the shooter in Duncan's murder, the group planned to carry out a more targeted attack on Delgado, the DA said.
After a phone call planning the attack, four members of the group went to 123rd Street and Lexington Avenue, and shot Delgado in the back of the head from point-blank range, killing him, the Manhattan DA said.
A few days later, one of the members of the group said, "“THIS IS A WAR, I DON’T KNOW IF THEY’RE NOT UNDERSTANDING YET OR THEY DIDN’T GET THE MEMO,” and “WE AIN’T PLAYING DEFENSE RIGHT NOW LIKE THIS ISN’T REALLY A GAME LIKE THIS S*** IS LIKE FOR REAL," according to the Manhattan DA said.
