60-Year-Old Shot Near Harlem School; Young Man Sought, Police Say

Police are seeking a young man after a 60-year-old man was hit with gunfire on a West Harlem block, authorities say.

HARLEM, NY — Police are seeking a suspect after a 60-year-old man was hit with gunfire on a residential West Harlem block last month, according to police.

Alex Guzman, 20, is being sought in connection with the Sept. 21 shooting on West 136th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam avenues, police say.

Around 6:30 p.m. that evening, a 60-year-old man was standing on the block — steps from the school complex that includes P.S. 192 Jacob H. Schiff School — when he heard gunshots and felt pain, police said.

He found he had been shot in the right leg, and was taken to Mount Sinai-Saint Luke's Hospital in stable condition, police said.

Police did not say whether the victim knew Guzman, or whether he was the intended target.

Police also did not say whether Guzman is suspected of firing the shots, though they released a surveillance image taken near the site of the shooting, they said.
