Arrest Made After Woman Attacked And Raped In East Harlem: NYPD

Geovanni Romero Gonzales was arrested on Tuesday in connection to attacking a woman near East 111th Street and Second Avenue, NYPD said.

HARLEM, NY — A man accused of attacking and raping a woman in East Harlem was arrested on Tuesday, police said.

Geovanni Romero Gonzales, 26, was arrested at a Randall's Island homeless shelter and charged with rape, robbery, stalking, and sex abuse, police said.

The 21-year-old woman was attacked about 1:40 a.m. on Monday, when a man approached her near Eat 111th Street and Second Avenue, before attempting to start a conversation with her, police said.

The woman ran away, but he chased her down and raped her, police said.

The attacker also took the woman's bag and cellphone, before fleeing east on 111th Street, police said.

Gonzalez is already facing two open cases in Queens, one where he is accused of exposing and rubbing himself against a 15-year-old girl in a train station, and another where he charged with second-degree assault and harassment, the Daily Mail reported.
