Charlie Rangel's Seat Is Up for Grabs in Tuesday Primary
Congress will be without Charlie Rangel for the first time since 1971 next year, and the primary is Tuesday.
NEW YORK, NEW YORK — For the first time since 1971, Rep. Charles Rangel won't be in the House of Representatives. And while the election to replace Rangel in the 13th Congressional District won't be until November, the all-important primary is June 28.
The Democrat who wins the primary is expected to win the general election. Rangel has won with 75 percent of the vote the last two elections.
There are eight candidates running in the Democratic primary: Assemblyman Keith Wright, former Assemblyman Adam Clayton Powell, Clinton advisor Suzan Johnson Cook, Mike Gallagher, State Senator Adriano Espaillat, Assemblyman Guillermo Linares, former political director at the Democratic National Convention Clyde Williams and Sam Sloan.

Wright has been endorsed by Rangel. He's also been endorsed by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, former NYC Mayor David Dinkins and State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie.
If Espaillat's name sounds familiar, it's probably because he narrowly lost to Rangel in the last Democratic primary.

The New York Daily News has endorsed Espaillat. The New York Times endorsed Williams.
The 13th Congressional District reaches north from Harlem and East Harlem through Washington Heights and into the Bronx.
Republican Tony Evans and Green Party candidate Daniel Vila Rivera are running unopposed in the primary.
Those wishing to vote must be registered Democrats. You can look up your polling location by using NYC.gov Poll Site Locator. Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m.
