Couple Assaults Taxi Driver In Harlem, Police Say

Two taxi passengers punched their driver instead of paying him.

HARLEM, NY — The NYPD is trying to identify two people who hailed a cab to Harlem and then assaulted the driver when it came time to pay, police said.

A man and a woman were picked up by a taxi driver in the Clason Point section of the Bronx around 6:40 p.m. Friday night and were driven to Eighth Avenue and West 153rd Street, police said. When the cab arrived at the destination, the passengers told the driver they didn't have money and got out of the vehicle, police said.

During an ensuing argument, the passengers approached the driver's side window and punched the 65-year-old cab driver several times before fleeing the scene, police said. Police believe the two suspects fled to a building on West 153rd Street between Bradhurts and Eighth avenues.
