CENTRAL PARK, NY — A dog was stabbed and killed Saturday night in Central Park after an argument broke out between two sets of pooch walkers, police said.

A man and a woman were walking two of their dogs inside of the park about 8:30 p.m. near the East 106th Street and East Drive entrance, when an argument broke out with another pooch walker who had three dogs off leash, according to police and multiple reports.

Witnesses told ABC News that the off least dogs began biting the couple's dogs, and the argument happened when the woman began trying to break up the fight.

"One of his dogs tried to bite my little dog and he tried to tell me that it's OK," one of the owners who identified himself as Brian, told NBC 4. "And I tried to talk sense into him."

The trio of dogs then attacked Eli, Brian told NBC 4.

In the midst of the coming together the owner of the three dogs took out a blade and repeatedly stabbed Eli, a pit bull, before immediately fleeing, according to police and ABC News.

"You killed my dog, you piece of s***," Brian yelled after the fleeing man, video obtained from ABC News shows.

The couple rushed Eli to a local animal clinic, but he was euthanized due to the injuries, police said.
