Harlem Community Boards Close District Office

HARLEM, NY — Community board representing East Harlem and Central Harlem are closing their district offices and will conduct its business remotely as safety measures amid the coronavirus outbreak in New York City, the board announced this week.

Community Board 11 shuttered its 1664 Park Ave., located between east 117th and 118th streets, at the end of day Monday, board chair Nilsa Orama said in an email sent to residents. Community board staff will work remotely and continue to conduct constituent services. Residents can reach out to staff by email or phone.

Despite the office closure, Community Board 11 will not stop conducting business. Plans for the board's executive committee meeting on March 19 have been made to hold the meeting remotely via a teleconference. The meeting will also be streamed live on the community board's website.

Community Board 11's office closure will be temporary, but no return date has been announced, according to Orama's letter.

Community Board 10 is suspending its meetings indefinitely while its office is closed, according to a statement released Tuesday by the board.

Twelve New York state residents have died and 1,374 residents have tested positive for coronavirus as of Tuesday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced. Ten thousand people have been tested and, since Monday, 432 new positive cases were confirmed, said Cuomo.
