East Harlem Man Struck, Killed On Third Avenue In NYE Hit: NYPD

The East Harlem man was fatally struck while laying in the roadway of a busy shopping area on the Upper East Side, authorities said.

HARLEM, NY - An East Harlem man was fatally struck while laying in the roadway of a busy shopping area on the Upper East Side, authorities said.

Roberto Rodriguez, 49, of East Harlem, was found with “severe head and torso trauma” near Third Avenue and East 110th Street about 4:34 a.m., police said.

Medics rushed Rodriguez to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

An initial investigation found Rodriguez was already laying on the roadway when he was struck by a 2023 Tesla four-door sedan, which was traveling northbound on Third Avenue, police said.

The Tesla’s 25-year-old driver initially left the scene, but came back a short time later and stayed at the scene, police said.

No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad.
