East Harlem Rape Declared Homicide After Victim Dies: NYPD

A woman who was assaulted and raped in East Harlem died nine days after the attack, police say.

EAST HARLEM, NY — A woman who was attacked and raped on an East Harlem street died of her injuries in the hospital, an NYPD spokesman said Friday.

Police declared the May 18 rape of a 64-year-old woman a homicide Friday, revealing that the victim died nine days after the assault after being attacked on East 111th Street and Second Avenue.

Frankie Harris of Brooklyn was arrested on May 23 and charged with attempted murder, rape, strangulation and sexual assault, police said. The man is accused of approaching the victim on the street from behind, placing her in a choke hold and knocking her to the ground before sexually assaulting her.

Police did not announced updated charges against Harris on Friday.
