Firefighter Injured In Massive 4-Alarm Blaze At Harlem Deli: FDNY

It took over three hours for firefighters to douse a huge Harlem fire at a ground-floor deli, officials said.

HARLEM, NY — A massive fire ripped through a Harlem deli early Friday morning, FDNY officials said, with one injured firefighter sent to a nearby hospital.

The fire began sometime around 4:45 a.m. inside a first floor deli at 2059 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd., on the corner of West 123rd Street, an FDNY spokesperson told Patch.

Flames soon reached the second floor of the building, according to officials.

Nearly 170 firefighters and medics responded to the scene, and soon the fire reached four-alarm status, officials said.

Two people have been reported injured so far, the spokesperson said, including a firefighter who had to be rushed to Harlem Hospital.

Friday's blaze comes just a week after another Harlem fire left one resident deada 27-year-old journalist. Officials now said that fire was caused by an e-bike battery.

Beyond last week, Harlem has seen a series of tragic fires this season.

Earlier in February, another person was killed and 11 were injured in a fire at a Harlem NYCHA apartment. On the same day, another fire broke out with no injuries.

In January, three people were injured in a fire on East 122nd St., with one of the victims — a sleeping, 23-year-old man — dying soon after from his injuries.

Back in November, two people were killed in a tragic brownstone fire on Malcolm X Boulevard.
