Teen Found In East River Died In Accidental Drowning: Medical Examiner
Garrett Warren, the Harlem 13-year-old who was pulled from the East River Thursday, died of accidental drowning, the Medical Examiner said.

HARLEM, NY — Garrett Warren, the 13-year-old Harlem boy who was pulled from the East River last week, died of an accidental drowning, the Medical Examiner confirmed.
Warren, along with his friend Alfa Barrie, 11, disappeared on May 12. Barrie's body was found in the Hudson River on Saturday morning, police said.
The Medical Examiner has not yet ruled a cause of death for Barrie.

The pair of friends were last seen climbing through a hole in a fence near the East River, according to multiple publications.
Another teenager, who had been with the two boys at the time, told authorities that Warren and Barrie had been playing by the water's edge, when both of them ended up going into the river, CNN reported.

A person had called 911 on May 12 to report two boys in the water near the 145th Street Bridge that connects Harlem to the Bronx, but a police boat did not find anybody, PIX11 reported.
Garrett went to Nest + M middle school on the Lower East Side.
He lived on 143rd Street in Harlem.
“He was an amazing boy," a person who didn't want to be identified told the Daily News through tears about Warren. "He loved football and science and Jolly Ranchers and Monopoly."
