HARLEM, NY — A longtime Guatemalan chicken eatery is opening a new spot in Harlem.

Pollo Campero, known for their chicken and tasty sides, is set to take over a vacant retail space at 66 West 125th St., near Malcolm X Boulevard, on March 13.

The grand opening celebration will feature the restaurant's mascot, Pollito, and prizes and other giveaways throughout the day.

And the first 20 people in line at 10 a.m. will be entered into a raffle for a free year of food from the restaurant.

Founded in Guatemala in 1971, Pollo Campero serves both grilled and fried chicken, empanadas, chicken sandwiches and sides derived from family recipes, the restaurant said.

For 20 years, the eatery's sole outpost in New York City was in Corona Plaza, but in 2023, a pair of Manhattan locations were opened near Herald Square and Port Authority.

Eater noted that the sides at Pollo Campero were standout offerings, especially the beans, yuca fries and the sweet plantains.

Another Pollo Campero location is set to open in Midtown East ahead of the Harlem spot.
