Harlem Dessert Named Among 13 Best In New York City
A recent list of the best desserts in New York City featured a pudding dish from Harlem.
HARLEM, NY — A Harlem restaurant's dessert was just named among the 13 best in New York City.
Eater NY recently published a list of the "13 Desserts to Try in NYC."
The second dessert on the list? The banana pudding from Charles Pan-Fried Chicken at 340 W. 145th St.

Here's what Eater NY had to say about the restaurant and the dessert dish.
"The chicken is some of the city’s best, but too much fried skin is liable to knock you without a sweet finish," Eater NY wrote. "Try the banana pudding: a small plastic cup with slices of banana floating throughout and wafer cookies perched on top."

Other dessert options from the Harlem eatery includes sweet potato pie, peach cobbler, red velvet, and cheesecake — all for $6.
Owner and North Carolina native Charles Gabriel moved to New York in 1965 at the age of 20. He began cooking fried chicken at a park table before opening a food truck, and later a series of restaurants in Harlem starting in 1984.
He was nominated for a James Beard award in 2018.
More recently, he opened a second Harlem location, as well as a new outpost on the Upper West Side.
The original 145th Street location is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Sundays to Thursdays, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
