Harlem Peruvian Eatery Named Among 100 Best In NYC: New York Times
Contento was the only eatery above 87th Street in Manhattan to make the New York Time's coveted list that included 65 joints in the borough.

HARLEM, NY — A Harlem Peruvian eatery with an already impressive list of accolades was just named among the 100 best restaurants in New York City by the New York Times.
Contento, located at 88 E. 111th St., wasn't just the only eatery of the 65 Manhattan restaurants featured on the list to be from Upper Manhattan, it was the only joint located above 87th Street in the borough.
Contento was ranked overall as the 82nd best restaurant in New York City.

"Famous for accommodating people with disabilities, Conento accommodates everyone else, too, with a deep rare sense of hospitality," the New York Times wrote."The warmth of the servers makes you glad you came; Oscar Lorenzzi's spirited takes on Peruvian cuisine make you want to stay."
Lorenzzi hails from Peru and has previously worked at prominent eateries such as Nice Matin and the Waverly Inn.

Its owners, Yannic Benjamin and George Gallego, both use wheelchairs and designed Contento to be accessible through elevated tables and spaced-out furniture.
"We are thrilled to be featured in @nytimes 100 best restaurants in NYC along with many other wonderful establishments!" Contento posted on Instagram. "Thank you for recognizing our passion for delicious cuisine and welcoming hospitality. We couldn't be more grateful!"
It is not the first time that Contento has received praise.
The eatery that opened in June 2021 was named one of the 40 best new restaurants in the United States in November of the same year by Esquire Magazine.
A year later, the Harlem Peruvian spot was named to the prestigious Michelin Guide.
