Innocent Bystander Shot In East Harlem, Police Say

An argument on an East Harlem street escalated into a shooting that wounded two men, including a 61-year-old passerby, police said.

EAST HARLEM, NY — An fight between a large group on an East Harlem street devolved into a shootout that wounded an innocent bystander, according to police.

It unfolded on Aug. 13 outside a bicycle shop on Third Avenue near East 111th Street, where a 27-year-old man got into an argument with a group of six to seven people shortly after 11 a.m., police said.

As the argument escalated into a fight, one person in the group took out a gun and fired it multiple times at the man, hitting him in the forehead and right leg, police said.

A 61-year-old man who had been walking by was also shot in the left leg, police said.

Both the 27-year-old and the bystander were taken to nearby hospitals in stable condition, police said.

The group of people fled in an unknown direction, police said.
