Harlem Teen Daytime Murder Case Update: Arrest Made, Cops Say

Tyler Wise, 19, was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in connection to a 2021 shooting at 132nd Street, NYPD said.

HARLEM, NY — A 19-year-old named Tyler Wise, but who goes by Johnny Ringo, was arrested and charged with murder in connection a Harlem daytime shooting in 2021, police announced on Thursday.

Wise, a Harlem resident, was charged with murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment, police said.

The charges stem from a shooting around 3:30 p.m. Oct. 26, 2021, in front of a McDonalds at 45 W. 132nd St., when police found a 17-year-old Taquan Jones with a gunshot wound to his chest, police said.

Jones, who was also a Harlem resident, was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead 30 minutes later, police said.

The investigation has been ongoing since.

“He doesn’t do anything to anybody. He’s not in any gangs. All he does is hang out with his friends and come home to his family,” his cousin Janila White told the Daily News at the time.

Jones was a senior at Harlem Renaissance High School, the Daily News added.
