Man Pleads Guilty In Fatal 2022 Harlem Shooting Of Boy, 14: DA
Jiniye Hooks, 19, pleaded guilty to the fatal shooting and will likely face 20 years or more in prison, prosecutors said.

HARLEM, NY — A man pleaded guilty to a fatal 2022 shooting that killed a 14-year-old boy and injured a 15-year-old in Harlem, prosecutors said this week.
Jiniye Hooks, 19, plead guilty to the fatal shooting that killed Justin Streeter, who was only 14-years-old when he died.
“Jiniye Hooks chose to target two boys in a vicious act of violence that tragically took Mr. Streeter’s life too soon,” said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

“No family should have to grieve the loss of a child," Bragg said, "and my thoughts are with Mr. Streeter’s family as they continue healing from his loss. Combating gun violence remains a top priority for me, and my office will continue to hold people accountable when they commit these serious acts of violence.”
Hooks will likely face 20 years or more in prison, prosecutors said.

The shooting took place on July 19, 2022 outside of a deli near East 128th Street and Park Avenue, officials said.
As the two teens exited the deli, Hooks, who was nearby, started to fire a gun at them, prosecutors said.
The boys ran and Hooks kept shooting, eventually hitting Streeter in the back of his head, officials said. The 15-year-old was shot in the leg, but was able to flee, said prosecutors.
Streeter was pronounced dead at the hospital and Hooks fled the scene, but was cuffed a week later by police officers, prosecutors said.
Hooks was ultimately charged and convicted of second degree murder and second degree attempted murder, officials said.
