New Teen Center Opens In Harlem Library: What To Know

The center at Macomb's Bridge branch in Harlem will have a variety of resources, including photography, tech tools, and academic help.

HARLEM, NY — A new center for teenagers opened this week within a New York Public Library branch in Harlem.

The Teen Center opened its doors Wednesday at Macomb's Bridge Library at 2633 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd., near West 151st Street.

"Designed to offer teens welcoming and inclusive spaces that meet their educational and social needs, the teen centers will focus on interest-driven learning that supports digital literacy and technology skills, teen empowerment and civic engagement, the exploration of teen voice and social identity, mental wellness, and mentoring opportunities," reads a news release from the New York Public Library.

The new center will offer a variety of resources, including cameras, tripods, lighting equipment, printers, gaming consoles, 3-D printers, iPads and Apple pencils, computers, and free Wi-Fi.

There will also be the more standard library options such as books, comics, music, and DVDs.

The newly enhanced teen center in Harlem is one of 14 dedicated spaces slated to open this year, the result of funding from the city aimed at supporting students.

There will also be the Teens 360 program offered at the library, which is a new initiative that provides a holistic support package to help students achieve academic success.

The Macomb's Bridge Library is closed on Sundays, but open for the rest of the week.
