Pedestrian Killed By Electric Scooter Driver In E Harlem: Police

EAST HARLEM, NY — A woman hit by an electric scooter while crossing the street in East Harlem died of her injuries one day after the collision, police said.

Anette Camaya, 60, was crossing the street on Tuesday evening at Pleasant Avenue and East 118th Street when she was hit by a man driving a Wuxi Dongma Z6 electric scooter, an NYPD spokesperson said. Camaya, who was knocked out during the collision and suffered injuries to her head and body, was rushed to Harlem Hospital where she was pronounced dead Wednesday.

The electric scooter driver stayed on the scene of the collision and was also taken to Harlem Hospital, where he was treated and later discharged, police said. No charges have been filed against the driver, an NYPD spokesperson said.

An NYPD investigation into the collision is still ongoing, police said.

Camaya's death is the only traffic fatality to be reported in the intersection of Pleasant Avenue and East 118th Street since 2009, according to city Vision Zero data. Since 2019, there have been 14 people injured in traffic collisions in the intersection.
