Retail Giant, Sephora, Opening In Harlem: What To Know

Cosmetics giant Sephora will open a new location on West 125th Street on Friday, company officials said.

HARLEM, NY — Sephora, the beauty product retailer, is gearing up to open its newest freestanding store in Harlem this week.

The store is set to open at 121 W. 125th St., between Adam Clayton Powell Jr. and Malcolm X Boulevards, in the same building that will also accommodate the highly anticipated Trader Joe's and small-format Target on 125th Street this Friday, according to company officials.

Construction on the building began in the summer of 2022, Patch previously reported.

The building was designed by Beyer Blinder Belle, with developers including the Prusik Group, BRP Companies, L+M Development Partners, Goldman Sachs Urban Investment Group, and Taconic Partners.

"After much anticipation, we are thrilled to contribute to the beauty that is Harlem, USA," a recent post on the shop's new Instagram account reads.

Opening day events will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m. along with other festivities.

Sephora is owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, which specializes in luxury goods, and was founded in France in 1970 by Dominique Mandonnaud. It carries an array of products from "carefully curated brands, featuring emerging favorites, trusted classics, and Sephora’s own line, Sephora Collection."

Sephora has more than 2,700 stores in 35 countries worldwide, including more than 500 stores across the Americas. The first U.S. store opened in SoHo in 1998.
