Summer Streets Will Take Over Harlem In August: What To Know

Summer Streets in Manhattan will extend all the way from the Brooklyn Bridge to Harlem on three days in August.

HARLEM, NY — Summer Streets kick off in Manhattan in August, and a route of closed-off blocks will run all the way from the Brooklyn Bridge to Harlem.

Summer Streets opens select blocks for people to play, walk and bike on, and this year's rendition of the program has doubled in size.

“Summer Streets kicks off this weekend in Queens and Staten Island and will extend to all five boroughs for the first time,” said NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez, in a press release on Thursday.

The program will take place in Manhattan on Aug. 5, 12 and 19.

The Manhattan Summer Street section will extend its traditional route this year and go from the Brooklyn Bridge all the way into Harlem, traveling along Lafayette Street and Park Avenue up to 109th Street, onto Central Park North from Fifth Avenue to Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard, and finally along Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard from 110th to 125th streets.

The streets will be closed off to traffic from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

While the exact programming hasn't been specified, expect musical performance, food vendors, and family friendly activities.
