Suspect In Harlem Bat Attack Is Arrested, Police Say

Cops have arrested the man who whacked another man's head with a baseball bat in broad daylight on a Hamilton Heights street, police said.

HARLEM, NY — The man who whacked another man's head with a baseball bat on a Hamilton Heights street last week has been arrested, police announced Wednesday.

Karim Azizi, 36, is accused of swinging the bat at the unsuspecting 47-year-old victim the morning of Nov. 29, on Amsterdam Avenue between West 147th and 148th streets, police said.

Azizi lives right around the corner in Hamilton Heights, police say.

According to the New York Post, the two men had been in an argument shortly beforehand.

Video released by authorities over the weekend showed the then-unidentified suspect following a few steps behind the victim, then reaching into his pants, grabbing an orange baseball bat, and swinging it hard at the back of the man's head, causing him to crumple to the ground.

The attacker continued to stand over the victim, appearing to yell and kick him at least once, the video showed.

The man suffered a laceration to the head and bruises and was taken in stable condition to NYC Health and Hospitals/Harlem, police said.
