Teen Arrested for Slashing Commuter After Cops Recognize Him From Poster

The 17-year-old was recognized by a patrol on a 3 train Wednesday night, and taken into custody.

HARLEM, NY — Police arrested a 17-year-old on Wednesday night in the slashing of a subway rider in a Harlem station.

The slashing happened on Tuesday at 9 p.m. in the 125th Street and Lenox 2, 3 train station and it was just blocks away that the suspect was taken into custody while waiting for a train, police said.

The teen, Victor Cherry, of the Bronx, was arrested after patrol officers on a 3 train pulled into the 116th Street station, one stop away from 125th and Lenox. The officers recognized Cherry sitting on a bench from a wanted poster and got off the northbound train to arrest him, police said. He was taken into custody at 6:10 p.m. without incident.

Cherry was charged with second-degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree menacing, police said.

The 42-year-old got into a confrontation with two teens at the 125th Street station after they were blocking the turnstile, according to the Daily News. The victim asked the suspect to move and then was stabbed in the left hand and slashed on his right hand, police said.
