HARLEM, NY — Hundreds of people traveled to Harlem Friday morning to pay their respects to Jordan Neely, the Michael Jackson impersonator who died in a 15-minute chokehold on an F train.

A public viewing took place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Mount Neboh Baptist Church near the corner of West 114th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard.

The funeral began shortly before 11 a.m, which you can watch back — HERE.

The Rev. Al Sharpton said during his eulogy that how Neely died shouldn't be ignored as they celebrate his life.

“This funeral was not on the schedule," he said. "We’re not here because of natural causes. We’re here because of unnatural policies.”

“Jordan was not annoying someone on the train," Sharpton continued. "Jordan was screaming for help. We keep criminalizing people with mental illness, people keep criminalizing people that need help. They don’t need abuse, they need help."

Sharpton also mentioned that Neely was never the same after watching his mother's funeral service at the same Harlem church in 2007 after she was murdered by her boyfriend.

Sharpton delivered Neely's eulogy after being invited to do so by Neely's family and the Harlem church's senior pastor, the Rev. Johnnie Melvin Green Jr.

“As we face sorrow, pain, and uncertainty in the wake of Jordan’s senseless killing, it is crucial that we come together in the spirit of healing, action, and perseverance,” Green said in a statement. “I can think of no one better, no one more equipped to meet this moment with that grace and guidance than Rev. Sharpton.”

A slew of elected officials were also in attendance Friday at Neely's funeral, including Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Comptroller Brad Lander, Senator Cordelle Cleare, and Assembly Member Al Taylor.

Daniel Penny, the Long Island man who put Neely in the fatal chokehold, was released on bond on May 12 after his arraignment on a manslaughter charge in Manhattan Criminal Court.

The former Marine was taken into custody after Neely's death but originally released without charges.

Penny is due back in court July 17.
