2 Harrison Standouts Sign With Colleges [VIDEO]

Harrison's Max Bruckner and Jessica Segal will continue their playing careers in college next year.

Two of Harrison's standout varsity athletes have accepted partial scholarships to play college athletics in 2012.

Baseball standout Max Bruckner will continue his pitching career in New Rochelle as a member of the Iona Gaels, while volleyball star Jessica Segal has signed with Boston-area Bentley University. Both athletes celebrated their signings at a ceremony Tuesday afternoon at Harrison High School.

"The coaching staff was really what drew me to Iona," said Bruckner, who is expected to be the ace of Harrison's pitching staff this spring. "More than any other school that was recruiting me, the coaching staff at Iona really made me feel at home."

Segal said she chose Bentley because of its business program.

"That was a major factor," she said. "I'm really excited that I can take the classes that fit my likes and what I want to do."

Segal was a part of a senior volleyball class that captured two Section I championships along with several individual awards over the last two years. Bruckner has led a resurgent Harrison baseball team, which has won playoff games in each of the last two years.

Both of the seniors will enroll at their respective schools in the fall of 2012.
