Blimp Makes Emergency Landing At Purchase College Campus

There were no injuries reported. The FAA is said to be investigating the incident that took place Wednesday morning.

PURCHASE, NY — A blimp, and not a hot air balloon as initial reports suggested, had an emergency landing in a field near Purchase College on Wednesday morning.

The SUNY Police Department, Purchase Fire Department, Harrison Police Department, Harrison EMS, Westchester County Police and Westchester County Airport Ops responded to the campus around 7:19 a.m. for reports of a hot air balloon that had to make an emergency landing.

No injuries were reported and the incident was quickly placed under control.

According to NBC4-NY, police said the pilot left from Westchester County Airport, but had to land early after experiencing unexpected high winds.

"Today a hot air balloon made an unscheduled landing on campus," Purchase College officials said in a statement posted to social media. "Thanks to all the emergency responders who assisted. Thankfully, no injuries were reported."
