Some Downtown Trees to Be Removed, Replaced

Necessary maintenance to a stretch of sidewalk along Halstead Avenue will force the town to part ways with about half a dozen trees.

But local arborists have no need to fear, the town plans to replace the trees this spring.

The trees had grown roots into the sidewalk near King Street, creating an uneven surface that began to pose a safety concern. 

The town will plant new trees more fitting for the area once the sidewalks are fixed.

Removal of the trees is planned for early this week.
