Man Killed In Fiery I-287 Crash In Harrison: State Police
His vehicle hit another vehicle, then veered over a guardrail and off the highway before hitting a sign and catching on fire, police said.
HARRISON, NY — A 37-year-old man has died after his vehicle veered off I-287 and caught on fire in Harrison Thursday night, state police said.
State police responded to the crash at around 10 p.m. Thursday, and George S. Wilkinson of White Plains was pronounced dead at the scene, they said.
An initial investigation found Wilkinson's vehicle was traveling east in the highway's left lane at "a high rate of speed" when he veered into the center lane and hit another vehicle, police said.

Wilkinson then lost control of his vehicle, which crossed all three lanes of traffic, went over the highway's guard rail, struck a large sign and caught on fire, state police said.
A 51-year-old woman from Stamford, Connecticut, was driving the vehicle Wilkinson hit, and she was not injured, state police said.
