A Mt. Vernon woman faces a felony charge after police say she tried to hide her identity from authorities after she was accused of stealing from the CVS on Halstead Avenue.
A CVS store manager called police when he believed a woman was placing store items in her purse on Sept. 19 at about 2:30 p.m. The manager said he wished to pursue charges against the woman, who was arrested at the scene.
The woman identified herself as Faye Joseph, and later signed paperwork at the Harrison Police Department using that name.
The only problem? The woman signed a prisoner property log using the name Elaine Joseph.
Noticing the discrepancy, police ran a computer search using the name Elaine Joseph and found a rap sheet and photo ID matching the likeness of the woman. When police confronted the suspect about their findings, she admitted her name was Elaine Joseph and that she used the alias Faye Joseph to hide active warrants against her.
Joseph, 42, of 168 Hillside Drive, Mt. Vernon, was charged with attempted petit larceny, along with another misdemeanor for criminal impersonation and a felony for the alleged forgery.
Joseph was transported to Westchester County Jail and remanded there without bail.
